Smiles Foundation

Nia--KevinThe Smiles Foundation is a Christian Charity working in North West Romania, within the city of Oradea and the surrounding Bihor County with families and children in desperate need of a helping hand. Smiles runs a wide variety of projects, Co-Founded by Nia Price with her then manager, Kevin Hoy – who is today, the Charity's CEO and visionary for the continuous development of the Charity's work.

Projects include the Family Care project which is the cornerstone of the work, supporting over 1,300 people, predominantly children on a monthly basis with food packages, medication and social assistance. We also have 30 houses sponsored by individuals and churches from the UK and USA – including one in Mirlou sponsored by Gorsley Chapel.

A major project which has developed from our initial work is with the Tileagd Roma Community just outside of Oradea. Shunned for years by the general community, their children found it hard to be accepted in regular school and so were without education. The purpose built Tileagd Community School now provides an education for 161 children from the Roma Community and the surrounding areas. The school is part of a Community Complex, which also houses a sports hall, medical centre with optometry and dental clinics, and the Tileagd Community Church.

Come and Join Us! - Mission Trips to Romania

One of the special features of the Smiles Foundation is their first class organisation of Mission Trips which have been 'life-changing' experiences for hundreds since opening our purpose-built Mission Centre in 2004.

Use your hands, your head and your heart by sharing the Love of Christ in a practical, meaningful way with the people of Romania. Whatever your gifts or interests, a Smiles Mission Trip will challenge you in service, sharing and sacrifice for others.

Family Care: help with sorting, packing and delivery of food packages, clothes and family support supplies to over 200 families.

Tileagd-Roma-Community

Children's Centres: share some time with the children from difficult backgrounds that need your love. Children abandoned, neglected or abused, staying at Smiles facilities allowing us to show how much we care for them and how much God Loves them.

Construction: builders, joiners, plumbers, electricians, plasterers, skilled and general hard workers always needed. Special project for 2011 will be working on the Joint Facility of Love.

Elderly Care: projects in Gepiu and Tileagd regularly provide Senior Luncheons for you to help prepare and serve for the elderly. Your visits make them feel very special.

Outreach Work: a love for children, a gift with art, craft or music – you can join the Summer School or Outreach projects allowing the opportunity to serve Christ with the children of Romania.

A Smiles Mission Trip is probably the easiest way to organise a short term mission experience to Eastern Europe. An average of 10 trips are arranged each year for you to join as an individual, family or church group, plus we have special trips for Church and Educational Challenges, School Groups and Educational Experiences (School Student groups for children 11 years of age and up).
